In the summer of 2006, Gene and Maureen Bailey left the hectic city life of Raleigh and moved to a 62-acre farm in Siler City, which they named Mystic Meadows Farm. It was a life long dream of the couple to return to their childhood roots of farming.
Gene grew up in Maryland, where he worked on a dairy farm while going to high school. After graduation he attended the University of Florida where he became a veterinarian. His dream was to become a cow doctor, but ultimately decided to become a small animal veterinarian, which he has enjoyed for the last 40 years.
Maureen was born in Maine. Her grandfather had a small farm where he raised the family’s beef, chicken and pork. Maureen’s parents moved quite a bit with her dad’s job, but they always returned to the farm in the summer until her grandfather’s death in 1984. After many years of missing farm life, Maureen found her passion working at a horse stable in Raleigh, where she was barn manager and taught lessons for 11 years.
When the couple moved to Siler City, they combined their love for animals and their love of the land to raise grass fed beef. It was important to them to humanely raise and care for their herd. Their dedication to sustainable farming is at the heart of everything they do.
Last year, their daughter and son-in-law, Brooke and Kevin, built their forever home on the farm to help and preserve the legacy of Mystic Meadows Farm for many years to come.
